On Sunday Feb 19th I went to the ice arena at Plymouth State University in NH to practice taking action photographs. My goal is to improve my skills as I have grand children starting to become active in sports that I'd like to photograph. As luck would have it there was a youth hockey gain about to start. I don't know anything about the teams playing.
The camera that I used is a Canon T3I that I bought myself for Christmas. I used two lenses (Canon EF 85mm f1.8 prime lens and Canon EF-S 55-250 Zoom f 4 to 5.6) to capture the shots. My camera was set up in the following modes: continuous shooting, AI Servo focus, Shutter Priority, and Manual ISO (3200 when using 55-250 lens and 1600 when using the 85 lens. Additionally I had the my t3i set up for back button focusing.
I used the 55-250 lens with setting between 65mm and 163mm for the first 10 pictures and the 85 mm lens for the rest. The first 10 pictures were shot at 1/500th of a second shutter and the rest at 1/640th of a second.
The team in this picture scored the most goals.
